California is for everyone
California, a western U.S. state, stretches from the Mexican border along the Pacific for nearly 900 miles. It’s known for its dramatic terrain encompassing cliff-lined beaches, redwood forest, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Central Valley farmland and the arid Mojave Desert. California cities include sprawling Los Angeles, seat of the Hollywood entertainment industry, and hilly San Francisco, home to the Golden Gate Bridge.
San Francisco and the Wine Country
All the major landmarks/attractions, Golden Gate, Alcatraz, etc. + neighborhood walking/rolling tours 4 days in the wine country. Daily exploration trips to the main and sub-regions of the wine country: Sonoma and Napa Valley, Russian River and Alexander Valley, Dry Creek and Anderson Valley. Mix of small limited production and larger prestige wineries. Food, culture, relaxation & daily exploration of the region (Santa Rosa, Calistoga, Healdsburg, etc.)
San Francisco to Monterey Bay and Big Sur
Your trip to California is not complete until you’ve seen the San Francisco Bridge. Plan for 10-14 days (or more) One week visit all the major landmarks/attractions, Golden Gate, Alcatraz, etc. + neighborhood walking/rolling tours. The next week travel tour south along the coast Highway 1 to Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Point Lobo (prime location for marine and land fauna) to Big Sur. Return to San Francisco via the old Camino Real and the route of the Spanish missions (Salinas, San Juan Bautista). Food, culture, history, nature. In season whale watching (Moss Landing or Monterey).
Los Angeles to San Francisco along the Coastal Highway
15-21 days 3-4 days LA sightseeing /visits main attractions -Hollywood, Getty Center, Santa Monica/Venice Beach, etc. – A lovely drive along the coast Highway via Santa Barbara, Solvang, Mission La Purisima, San Luis Obispo, Big Sur, Monterey, Santa Cruz. Be sure to stop and watch the whales along a sunny stretch of California highway!
The National Parks of California and Western USA
The “classic” West USA tour with unique landscapes and natural wonders. Starts in Las Vegas (or LA or Phoenix). Hoover Dam, Route 66, Grand Canyon National Park, Navajo land and culture, Lake Powell, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, Bryce National Park, Zion National Park, St George (historic center of Mormon culture). Many possibilities for accessible hikes and/or motorized tours.
